A regular dampener that goes between the middle 2 main string should have imperceivable impact on tension, at most it would only move the strings a couple of millimeters in a 16 main racquet.

I doubt the dampener will prevent the strings from snapping back because it's placed outside the hitting area and far from the point where the ball generally contact the strings.
