It didn't help matters when back in the 80s, in San Francisco, he started his yelling antics, refused to continue playing, got tossed out by the ump, then the promotor came on court and tossed the UMP out, and brought Mac back on court. That probably convinced Mac that he was God. Around that time, Bill Scanlon recalls in his book, playing him on that same Cow Palace court in the semis---Mac was losing, stopped his service motion, called Scanlon to the net and said, "Hey, c'mon, do you really think these people want to see a nobody in the finals, or me?" Scanlon beat him anyway. The worst thing is that in the past few years, Mac admitted his yelling and stallings were partly to change the tempo of the match in his favor. What a sportsman....
