You have it backwards. Networks can cash in off quick play, not slow play. Take sampras for example. His service games last like 1min, when he returns it takes two mins. The network gets to show 2 mins of commercials for every 3 mins of tennis.
With nadal they show 20 mins of tennis (or stalling) to show 2 mins of commercials. Less commercial time per hour when nadal plays.
