I think this post was started with a very ignorant knowledge of the situation in Argentina. Coria winning the French, or losing it, isn't going to decide if the mobs take his family hostage or not. Anyone with money down there is subject to it. Nobody in Argentina has the money to bet on anything... that's why they take hostages and stuff. Argentines with money usually get the hell out of there as fast as they can. I question if this isn't the case for Coria's family to begin with.
