well the shoulders are connected to the trunk so...

you really should not try to think shoulder rotation. this will lead to an upper body dominant swing. focus on driving the hips/trunk around while even keeping the shoulders a little bit closes initially.

then the shoulders will follow. you don't teach shoulder rotation this is in tennis like in baseball. the shoulders do eventually rotate (well actually the spine is rotating-the shoulders can't rotate they are just attached to the spine).
