Montecatini is actually more like 45-50 minutes train ride from Florence.

You may have googled this up already, but this looks like a very convenient and central club in Florence: http://www.ctfirenze.it/

It's in the Parco delle Cascine, a very nice park in walking distance of the downtown and a popular place for locals (at least by day-- I've heard that it's a little sketchy at night).

Don't know how easy it would be to get court time or lessons. The contacts page is "under construction," but they do have a contact email (informazioni@ctfirenze.org). Might be worth dropping them a line to find out what the options are, or if they can recommend a place.

Tennis aside, the Tuesday morning market in the Cascine is a fun thing to visit if you are there at that time.
