I had a case of balls that I ordered one time that was going to be delivered to my house on a day I would not be there. I did the same thing, called them and asked them to hold onto it and they refused. I'm pretty sure it was UPS though. So I had a friend drop by my house that evening and pick up the package and then I went by and got it from him the next day.
