The Mats Wilander of 1988 was an incredible player to watch. He had more fire than he used to, but was still that very composed and very smart player. His results that year made me feel extatic. I didn't think that he had such a year in him. But somehow, it was also a bad thing because he was never the same again after that. It's like after having played counter nature (even more so for his attitude, more aggressive and ambitious) for a year or 2, the moment he stopped to breathe and enjoy what he had achieved was fatal.
