I write letters to newspapers and they always verify name and address. It is much better than local newspapers where nutbags can write complete crap and just sign off as "Disgruntled from Sydney".
This started as a debate in Australia because some person tweeted something very offensive and insensitive to a prominent footballer who had just lost his mother. I guess the footballer could have turned the other cheek, but should society put up with filth from idiots.
