"Shoe of choice" is not the same thing as "I wear this exact retail version of this shoe". "Shoe of choice" just means if you asked the pro which shoe would he choose - Shoe A or Shoe B - he'd say - "I would choose Shoe A." It doesn't mean he actually wears that shoe.
