My personal choice is gut. I found that the durability justifies the price, and along with that, it plays better. I always carry a spare racquet with synthetic strings in case it rains or the courts are damp.
Again, I found the RIP mains / Hexy cross combines the best characteristics of the two strings. It will outlast full Hexy and break at around the time RIP starts to feel mushy. It will also be more comfortable than full RIP, and for me, the touch was much better. Head's packaged hybrid, Intellitour, is also a pretty good combination, but I liked RIP/Hexy a little better.
