Safin's defeat to the world no. 512 Wesley Whitehouse at Indianapolis in 2006 was a particular low-point. His 2nd round victory over Nalbandian at the US Open a month later was very entertaining though.
Gonzalez was a big nemesis for him that year, beating him 3 times in a short space of time at RG, Wimbledon (when Safin was leading by 2 sets to love) and LA.
