Margaret Osborne Dupont, Connolly predecessor and one of the most memorable champions ever, passed away yesterday.

She was almost centennial, and her record, with a complete dominance at the late 40īs (Wimbledon,Forest Hills,Roland garros) and an unmatched record at doubles, speaks volume for herself.

One of the top 10 ever women players and one that marked so much the serve and volley style of the 50īs.If she and Connolly had stayed competitive enough along together, that may have been a rivalry as great as Lenglen vs Wills,Court vs King, Evert vs Navratilova or Graf vs Seles, and possibly an even better one.
Whenever I walk in a London street, I am always so careful where I put my feet
