It is hard to find a good mid and I remember when they were supposed to become the big thing in tennis. I like to use braces. Mine use elastic straps that simulate taping. I've used this model since the 80s (I do buy new ones

) as it keeps my ankles nice and stable but also doesn't add bulk. A good shoe is still important but I have more choices and can focus on fit (which is the bigger issue since my foot is kind of an in-between size). Right now, I use the KSwiss Defier RS which is never going to go down in history as a ultra-supportive shoe but fits and is ok with my braces.
