I understand maybe trying to target your opponents weaknesses if you have the opportunity, but on your returns a lot of it is just reacting to the shot you're returning. Why would you let low balls come in closer? Move in and take it out in front of you before it gets too low.
I was playing some pickup doubles and my partner kept telling me when he was going to go down the line with his service return. I almost told him not to predetermine his return shot ... but then just kep quiet as it was more of a fun game than a competitive one.
