I reviewed the tips on that site also and I am currently experimenting with a modified lacing system. Basically it is the gap lacing but then using a lock lace at the top.
I'm using the lock with the thought that it will secure the heel and keep my toes from bumping around. I feel when I'm stopping and starting if the heel slips at it affects my toes more. I don't have enough time with the experiment yet to give any great feedback but that is what I'm trying at the moment.
