The question is how bad can the wear be before you should not restring? I know cracks are a showstopper, but what other criteria should be used?
If they are your friends what do you wait until the grommets are worn through before you say something? If the wear is through to the frame tell them the only way you will string it is to replace the grommet is you are worried about it.
