mono is transferred primarily via saliva hence "the kissing disease" moniker. However a person with mono can also pass the virus by coughing or sneezing, causing droplets of infected saliva and/or mucus to be suspended in the air which can be inhaled by others. The virus can also be transferred via secretion which might be a factor in Soderling's case. Being in contact with sweaty trainers or even a mono-riddled ball kid handing him a towel. It can also be transferred via food/drink. All the travel and constantly eating out leaves tour players more susceptible. If he has a weaker immune system he's more susceptible as well.
