I think coming out as a homosexual would have been the ultimate PR move to win the Heisman. Then if a writer voted for anyone else, the writer is a homophobe.
Give it a week, the truth will come out. If he invented the whole thing, it was not to cover homosexuality but simply to gain sympathy and then portray himself as a hero, soldiering on despite his tremendous personal loss.
