Still valid if you can't get back far enough to hit a normal overhead, as the back shoulder is your farthest back pivot point to hit the ball.
Assuming you turn shoulders first, then crab walk/hop back to cover deep overheads.
But why? You practice your serves constantly during a match, and never hit a ball with Connor's Bolo Sky hook.
