We could group these players into two defensive categories; Federer and Murray make use of their anticipation and reflexes on the baseline and serve respectively whilst Nadal and Djokovic use their speed to get to near impossible shots.
Personally, I think the anticipation/reaction defensive style helps the returner out; I do think Murray and Federer are a lot better than Nadal & Djokovic at returning. I see Nadal sometimes run backwards to hit returns and can get overpowered by the big servers.
