Bands are not as popular as they were 10 years ago. EDM is the most popular music among 15-25 year olds now.
If Uwe Boll made a high grossing film, he would be a good director, but he hasn't done that. And most people think he is terrible. So I'm not sure where you are going with that example.
I know the set of criteria which makes a good or bad song as I have worked with high level A&Rs who spend their lives looking for hits. The main part is the vocal and the chorus hook. I am not sure which criteria you are talking about, but feel free to expound if you want. I like talking music biz.
I didn't mean those guys. I meant the bands like Jimmy Eat World, The Bravery, My Chemical Romance, etc. you aren't going to see those guys at The Grammys..
I somewhat agree with the popularity in music bands... although hearsay, record stores, radio, television, etc. contributed to discovering music, the internet caused all of those points before to be obsolete. Music is very easy to discover now with the hundreds to thousands of artists out there.
The age range should be expanded. I believe it's the 15-35 year olds that is the general audience. EDM is just dance music. A series of synthesized sounds that comes up as 'catchy' and 'upbeat'. I can't believe this is selling..
Um... in most of the 'hits', the background music literally drowns the vocals.
