I have found that controlling carbs is a reliable strategy to cut down modern junk consumption (most of it is "low fat", "skimmed" or "fat free", btw).
A "balanced diet" with a target on calorie intake is pretty hard to follow as the elements associated with carb in take make you crave more food.
