I spained my nakle really badly playing soccer a few years ago.

Found that exercises with a theraband and balance training really helped get the ankle back to where it needed to be.

This article demonstrates some of the theraband exercises.

Also, the doctor had me work on my balance by standing on one foot, then making it harder by standing on one foot on a soft or uneven surface (a pillow for example.)
