Tennis players are absolutely frugal when compared to golfers. I've known guys who own as many putters as a good sized pro shop
. And 'drivers'...holy cow...$400 each and Joe Duffer gets a new one every season!
It certainly is smart to shop for last year's model if performance per dollar is what you seek. As has been stated many times on this board, there hasn't been a compelling technology (requiring replacement of rackets ) in many, many years.
On the other hand, it's hard NOT to look at the latest and greatest offerings in rackets, hand guns, bicycles, workshop tools, vehicles, etc., etc.
