I was thinking that if a player misses a full school year of competition due to medical reasons, the NCAA allows that player a 5th school year to complete their 4 years of eligibility. In a case like that a team could, in fact, have 9 full scholarship players.
This came up earlier in this thread when I noticed that Duke had two incoming blue chip recruits (who were receiving scholarships per tennisrecruiting.net) and I suggested that meant Capra wasn't coming back.
I don't mean to harp on Duke's particular situation, I am more interested in understanding the NCAA rules.
