No golf never had a pro-amateur split like tennis were pros were banned.
It is interesting to wonder too how many more "3-slam a year" players there might be if the Australian Open had always carried the same value as the other 3. Also for a period of time, particularly from before the 1930s, the French Open and U.S Open were not always fully attended by the top players, depending often what part of the world they were from. In golf the top people always played at all the available majors barring something unforseen.
