They say umpire didn't know the player was deaf:

According to the Australian Open, officials received no specific direction before the match to let them know Lee is deaf but on a number of occasions, umpire Thomas Sweeney used his hands to communicate.

Just for information - seems like Lee made his debut in Pro Circuit - played Tsukuba Futures this week, qualified and won hi first match in main draw. Lost in second round. http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/...erid=100207471
