Default question about Safin's game

Did anybody watched his matches after AO?
I can only see the score of his matches. Either he wins or he loses, it always 7/6, 7/5 or 6/4. (Well, only second set against Roddick was 6/2) I mean all matches look pretty tight. But if you have such score in all your matches, independently of who is your opponent, it's strange. Does he try something new to his game? Does he lack something in his own game? Physcally? Mentally?

When I watched him play Spadea, he has this thing going, where he seems to miss a lot of simple rally shots. He shanks a lot of forehands, stands flat-footed too much it seems, and misses easy putaways after working a points a lot. Well I shouldn't say put-aways, but he misses easier midcourt balls that are more like approach shots. He just needs to settle in more, work on his consistency out there, and focus more.

My theory is Safin sometimes will not make the effort to beat people he knows he can beat.
