Default Who's the true alpha daddy of the ATP counterpunchers?

I wonder if that's Chang, Gilbert, Wilander, or Agassi...

Recently, it's been Hewitt, Coria, Nadal, and (*sigh*) Murray.

Especially Hewitt.

Does "true alpha daddy" mean best? Most true to the stereotype of that style? Most consistent? First to develop that style? First to be successful using that style?

Then I'd go with Borg or Wilander, although Borg was much more aggressive on faster surfaces like grass.

And a pusher he is. I reluctantly included him in my list of counter-punchers.

@ the OP: If you're asking who the father of counter-punchers is, the first to do it - IMO, Borg gets the nod for this.

I'd with Murray as being the true alpha daddy in ATP counterpunching. Also Agassi wasn't a counterpuncher he was an aggressive baseliner.

IMO, a counterpuncher plays a non-aggressive, safe game, and utilizes placement, and pace of opponent's shot, to construct and execute winning shots.

Nadal has an EXCELLENT counterpuncher game, but he can also perform very well as an aggressive/all-court player (he did this in 200. IMO, Murray is a counterpuncher, mixes up his shots and waits for a good opportunity to execute a winning play. Simon too, he utilizes opponent's pace to hit big shots.

I think Hewitt, since he's won the most slams and ended the year at no. 1.
I'd say Nadal, really, but he has gradually become a hybrid between a counter-attacker and an all-court player.
Honorable mention to Komlavi Loglo.
