Default Bjorn Fratangelo

I hear he is heavily leaning to UGA. Its UGA or pro for this great player. I know he will make the right choice and allow Manny Diaz to turn him into a warrior before he makes his journey onto the pro tour.

He's going pro more than likely. Winning the junior french open changed his priorities.

No it is true. Winning the junior French Open made pro tennis a serious option where as before he was 90% going to college. Now its more lke 50/50. While you can't stake your future on one result it does show what you are capable of.

i would rarely say someone should go to UGA over UVA, but he should

he's not going to play above jenkins, domi, or frank

total waste of his time playing 4 in college

whereas ku singh is the only top 4 guy left for uga next yr

if he doesn't go pro - he'll go to uga - count it

The longer he holds out the better his contracts will be. Like Sock he won't play college. Those who think he'll show up on campus somewhere are teasing themselves.

BTW. Saw Kudla play yesterday and will watch him again today. Although it's just qualifying he is impressive. Watched him thump a top 100 player who beat him handily last summer.

agreed i have my money on him going pro

the harrison section of this article seems to point that way even though he mentions talking to isner too: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/vall.../s_782418.html

edit - and yeah, kudla is going to be great, always tough to tell where potential peaks in tennis, but i wouldn't rule him out as a top 20 guy for a handful of years

Kudla's development has been very impressive indeed.

I think Bjorn will go to college, if only for a year, his good friend Halabian went pro last summer and has been in a bit of a slump since. He is a thoughtful young man, so I think he sees the benefits of going for at least a year. Wouldn't be surpised if Mitchel Kruger does the same thing.

Saw where Bjorn Fratangelo lost in the 1st round of qualies at the Sarasota Challenger 67(4) 75 64 to Amer Delic. So far this year he has just a 3-6 record playing futures and Sarasota was his 1st go at a Challenger. I'd say if things don't start picking up for him I'd be surprised if he didn't give college a go for at least a year.

It'd be one thing if he was playing as well as someone like Jack Sock who has 13-7 record with 1 Futures Title, 1 Futures Semi, 1 Challenger QF, 2 tight losses both in 3 sets in the 1st round of San Jose and Memphis to Ryan Harrison and Denis Kudla.

You would almost sound credible if we did not all know you want to see him show up at Georgia. Ha Ha. 1 year of college ball won't make a hill of beans difference for a talent like this kid. Won't mean he'll go to college, does not mean college is a wise choice for him either.

I sort of agree that going to Virginia would be silly because of where he would play in the lineup, but don't overlook the opportunity to train against Domijan, Frank and Jenkins for a year. If these recruits cared about where they would play in the lineup, the also-ran schools in major conferences would be a big draw for top recruits. They aren't for a reason. You spend far more time on the practice court than playing matches.

You also play Futures while in college, fall tournaments where your spot in the lineup is not an issue, more Futures in the summer, and you can play up occasionally while others get a rest day if your coach is looking out for your development. In Charlottesville, you can get into the qualifying of a Challenger event in November. All of this in addition to the practice considerations already mentioned.
