Anyone following the Detroit Tigers and Miguel Cabrea might win the triple crown? He is the most underrated player in baseball. Only seems like diehard fans know him. Go Miguel!

Glad he has straightened his life out...his off-the-field troubles kept him in shackles from his HOF-type potential for a long time.

Hes not underrated at all. He got 153 million 4 or 5 years ago when he signed with Detroit so hows he underrated? He may be under publicized but no way hes underrated.

The guy went undrafted in 1999, his stats are insanely consistent.

I think Melky is still of the Giants. Just not 2012 Postseason Giants.
But As far as I know there is no relation. I hope Miguel wins the Crown. Thats one less things for Red Sox fans to talk about Talking about triple crown. who are the players that have won it? And who are players that at on point in thier career had a trieple crown. Fot instance this player led the league in Homeruns, RBI, nad batting but not all in the same year. It hasnt happened much. When Frank Robinson won his triple crown that was the only time he ever lead in any of those stats.

Reportedly, many of his San Francisco Giant team mates were quite turned off by it and there were repots (ESPN) of them considering not to vote him in for a "playoff share" ($). Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced that Cabrara is not in their post-season plans, saying "we've moved on." Detroit's (Miguel) Cabrara on the other hand is the real deal (no PED's)....and could be definitely be headed for the Hall of Fame when all is said and done. update: hit his 43rd HR, tying Josh Hamilton.

The batting average is looking good for Cabrera and the RBI looks to be in the bag. This triple crown is very rare and harder than winning the grand slam in difficulty. |

Definitely not underrated. Great player, but I would say overrated because he is 1 dimensional. He is the baseball version of Raonic.

I will not consoel the Melk Maids. Anyone who goes to that level to root for Melky Cabrera is not worth consoling.
Anyway back to the triple Crown and Miggy. Hes pretty much got it locked up IMO. I guess Hamilton can pull off the 4 HR day like he did in BMore earlier this year and beat him in RBIs as well The triple crown has been won 16 times by 14 different dudes. Rogers Hornsby and Ted Williams are the ones with multiples. Its been 11 different players since 1900. 1878 Palu Hines Providence Grays 1887 Top Oneill STL Browns 1894 Hugh Duffy Boston Beaneaters 1901 Nap Lajoie PHI A's 1909 Cobb Tigers 1922 Hornsby Cards 1925 Hornsby Cards 1933 Jimmie Foxx PHI A's 1933 Chuck Klien PHI Phillies 1934 Gehrig Yanks 1937 Joe Medwick Cards 1942 Ted Williams Red Sox 1947 Williams again 1956 Mickey Mantle 1966 Frank Robinson BMore 1967 Yaz Bos Frank Robinson only hit 316 when he won his title. Not paul hines in 1878 (60 game season) Ty Cobbs 9 HR and 107 RBIs are the lowest of the winners. Paul Hines and Tip Oneil are the only two of the actual triple crown guys to not be in the HoF. And then there have only been 11 guys with a career triple crown Pujols, Babe Ruth, DiMaggio, Aaron, Mize, Andres Gallaraga, Bonds, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez and Heinie Zimmerman (dead-ball era HR leader in 1912 with 14)

Regarding Robinson's .316, MLB lowered the pitching mound 5 inches beginning in 1969 because the pitcher's were becoming too dominant. Bob Gibson's 1.12 ERA in 1968 was the last straw.
The old timer numbers are kind of a joke IMHO. It was a different game in many respects. Last edited by Fearsome Forehand : 10-03-2012 at 11:45 AM. |

Mike Trout is having a fine year but won't get MVP.
But being his first year I'll be looking for his numbers in years to come, he may be a great one in the making. Cabrera is only one HR ahead of Hamilton so it might come down to the last day. Triple crowns don't change a players place in history too much but it's a fine addition to the resume. |

And we hear so much that Fed is too old at 31...Derek Jeter just finished as MLB's 2012 hit leader with 216 knocks...at age 38!
