Getting ready to buy an iPhone 5 for my 16 year old daughter (as of Sunday).
Who makes the best case for protecting it against drops? Probably don't want anything too bulky since it is for a 16 year old female who will probably carry it in her pocket or in this small 'little larger than a wallet' type thing she carries. Thanks. TripleB

Personally, I'm a huge fan of Seidio's cases:

FWIW, cnet says there are some cases which mimics some well known brands cases. They cost well under $10 on the bay:

A friend of mine gave me a *speck rubberized cover for my iPhone 3G when I bought it more than two years ago...the phone is still in mint condition today. It's a bit bulky but I don't mind bcoz it has saved me several times when I have dropped the phone on hard floors and concrete.

for my cellphones i always used Otterbox Defender but you said you don't want it to be too bulky i would go with a Speck case durable yet simple. It's worth the money i can guarantee you.

How is the piece that covers the front of the phone?
Is there a seperate piece that covers the glass or is the piece that covers the front glass built into the Otterbox Commuter? The reason I ask is because I got an inexpensive screen protector for my Droid 4 that I love. I would like to use the same one on her iPhone 5 and then just use the Otterbox to cover the rest of the phone. Thanks. TripleB

The iPhones are expensive pieces of kit (I love mine) but its worth the exta $ to protect them... go with the Otterbox Defender Series
http://www.otterbox.com/ Youtube Video about the case http://youtu.be/d7e_UZc1BwE Last edited by Tennisguy3000 : 10-04-2012 at 09:40 AM. |

The Otterbox Commuter is then a two piece case, the first is rubber which absorbs any shock if it gets dropped, then the harder outter case is the first line of defence I suppose. I think they're probably the best mix of protection and style. You see some protective cases and they are incredibly ugly and bulky, whilst some look nice and are thin, but are useless in the protection department. For me, this is the best of both worlds. I found a video you might be interested in, it's the only one I could find showing the pink case, which i'm guessing your daughter would be looking to get http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW9MD2A7hvM It shows the component parts, the separate screen protection you were interested in and also shows what the colour would look like on her phone. It's a bit of a cheesy, rehearsed video it seems, but still. |
