If he wins his first round match, he will have the all time record for most grand slam match wins on a hard court with 128.
If he reaches the quarterfinals, he will join Jimmy Connors as the only players to reach at least 10 quarterfinals at a Grand Slam at two different Grand Slams. If he reaches the semifinals, he will join Jimmy Connors and Andre Agassi as the only players to reach at least 10 semifinals at a Grand Slam. Only Connors and Federer will have reached 10 or more consecutive semifinals at a Grand Slam. If he reaches the finals, he will tie Lendl and Sampras for most consecutive years of reaching at least one grand slam final in a year. If he reaches the finals, he will have reached at least 6 finals at a grand slam at three different Grand Slams. (Lendl and Borg are the only players to have reached at least 4 finals at a grand slam at three different Grand Slams.) If he wins, he will have won at least 5 championships at 3 different grand slams (remarkably, no other player has even won at least 3 championships at 3 different Grand Slams) If he wins, he will tie Sampras for most different years of winning a grand slam in a year with 10. |

All very minor. The only big record that can be achieved at the Australian Open is Nadal winning a slam for the 9th straight year. He is currently tied on 8 straight years with Federer and others.

I think Federer winning his 5th Australian Open, the third grand slam that he has won at least 5 championships at is far more impressive, when you consider that no other player has even won 3 championships at 3 different Grand Slams.

It actually isn't an achievement that's been talked about too much, nevertheless the number of times you are going to mention it, across a big number of accounts, is certainly "big".

10 semi-finals in a row, that would be insane
