Hi so I'm currently using 2 Wilson Prostaff 6.1 90 with Champion's choice string.
I have Wilson natural gut in the main at 54, and Alu rough in the cross at 52. As I understand that I will probably break my strings soon (I've been playing for 2 hours a day 6 days a week), which string should I use to restring if the current strings break? The only reason I'm looking for new strings is that Champion's choice is kinda expensive and cant afford to get it every time it breaks. Is there any other strings that feels similar to Champion's choice but cheaper?? Or should I just spend $30 every time the string breaks just because its feel and ballpocketing made from this combination is worth the money?? Thanks in advance!! |

Sorry just had to laugh. Okay, time to list solutions. 1) You can extend the life of your gut (according to the TW Nat Gut 101 article) by rubbing it with wax after hitting sessions. It makes sense, but it also creates a very slippery feeling on the strings, which I don't like when I want heavy spin. 2) Otherwise, you can get the string yourself to get better options. a) You can change your 16 VS Natural Gut with 15L VS Natural Gut http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Babo...AB-BNG15L.html, which will increase durability slightly, but cost you a bit in terms of power and spin. b) You can also go for a "lower quality" string in Babolat Tonic+ 15L, which is basically VS 15L but without perfect gauge control (it still plays amazingly well and you won't notice a difference unless you're a pro, maybe not even then). c) Buying the reel http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Luxi...-ALUPR16R.html, saves you $0.50 per string job, and a total of $18. That's if you measure out 20' each time, which you won't if you're good. You are using a 90 sqin head, which requires less than the standard 20' to string your crosses. If you get good and measure out your strings well each time, you can shave probably at least 3 feet each string job, which gives you about 100 extra feet of Luxilon (meaning 5 half-sets essentially for FREE). d) Alternatively, you can swap out the Alu Power Rough for the normal Alu Power, which will further increase string life because Alu Power Rough is a string killer. http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Luxi...SON-LALUR.html Also, if you use this, you can go back to using multifilaments in your hybrids since Alu Power Rough DEMOLISHES any sort of multi string (oddly enough, Gut is more durable against it). If you plan to use Alu Power Rough in your hybrid, then the only things that can give you durability in combination with it would be a durable solid core synthetic (as a cross), another Poly (also more durable as a cross), Kevlar (I guess, and probably also used as a cross), or Natural Gut (used in the mains cause otherwise you're wasting money, regardless of the difference in durability).

you should just buy a full set of a cheaper natural gut and buy a full set of luxilon and cut them both in 1/2 so you can string both rackets and itll be cheaper than getting 2 champion choice hybrids or you could try something other than a natural gut like multifilaments like the Babolat XCel or the Tecnifibre X-One Biphase

Buy a reel of poly after testing inexpensive polys. And use a cheaper gut...
BTW, what is your NTRP level
