Depends if you count Taiwan/Chinese Taipei as part of China.

Yen-Hsun Lu is definitely Chinese. He just happens to be from Taiwan. It would be more accurate to say that Di Wu is the first man from the People's Republic of China ie. Communist China to play in a tennis Slam in the Open Era.

It would be accurate to say that Di Wu will be the first player to represent China in a tennis major. Taiwan is where the defeated Kuomintang fled after losing the Chinese civil war to the Communists in 1949. That is the reason why Taiwan is not a part of China today.

I hope he can win a set or two, if not winning a match.
