Black poly recommendation

Hi all,

I have. Head youtek prestige MP normally play with lux bb rough. Looking to get a new poly that's a bit cheaper and better tension maintenance than the lux. Was looking at technifibre black code, Dunlop Black widow, volkl cyclone or possibly rpm blast. Be interested to hear people's thoughts or if any prestige users have used or use any of these polys.

Tourna Big Hitter Black 7. I would go with the 17G in a tight string pattern and 16G in a 16 x 19.

I have RPM Blast in my APD right now. The tension maintenance is alright, but it has lost it's "specialness" already. I've hit for about 20 hours since I got it strung a week ago, the rest of the time it has been sitting. The glossy quality is gone so the strings don't snap back as much. It plays like any other good quality poly now.

I'm planning on trying Lux Savage and Tecnifibre Black Code in the near future, so I would suggest those.

Totally unrelated, but if you haven't broken RPM after 20 hours of hitting, then you aren't at a level where you need poly.

It's not match play...and I don't hit very flat, so I don't break poly anyways. It just gets very loose.

Hitting flat doesn't break poly. Hitting with spin does. If you've played with poly for 20 hours, whether it's match play or practice, and you still haven't broken it, then you don't have the swing speed to fully utilize it.

Yep.... QFT, poly is only beneficial for people who can break it.

In my experience, poly breaks more from stretching than sawing, but whatever.

I was unaware that practicing volleys and rallying doubles put a lot of wear and tear on your strings.

The harder you hit the better poly performs, but most people can benefit from a poly if the pace of their shot is sufficient.

Thanks for the responses so far. How does the big hitter black compare to the volkl cyclone. What holds tension better?

I use it because it is durable and I hit harder and with more spin than non-poly strings. I try to not break my strings. If they get loose I couldn't care less, I can't afford to be restringing my racket every week, or even every month.

No, I'm considering it, though. I really want a lower powered string though. Big Banger Rough is what I am probably going to get the next time I restring my racket.

Black Widow in 15G would be perfect.... When it loses tension it doesn't turn into as much of a rocket launcher as other strings.

Weiss Cannon Black 5 Edge. One of my opponents called it "back edge" because the topspin always seemed to bring the ball just barely in the court at the last moment.

OP, to answer your question, Genesis Black Magic is a good all round black polyester. If you like feel and provide spin on your own, then it's a good choice. WeissCANNON BlackFiveEdge is a solid baseliner string. It has lower power and is stiffer than Black Magic, but it provides fantastic spin and has excellent tension maintenance. Discho Iontec also gets great reviews for an all round polyester, although according to some, the earthworm color plays better than the black.

Personally, I would avoid using RPM Blast or Black Code as they are overpriced given their relatively short life span.
