Default Rafa pulls out of Abu Dhabi touney!!!

Quote:
I am very disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year in Abu Dhabi. I was really excited about returning to play and I always have a wonderful experience at the event and this is the first time I will miss the tournament.

My rehab has gone well, my knee feels good and I was looking forward to competing. Unfortunately doctors have informed me that my body needs to rest in order to fight this stomach virus. I would like to say sorry to all my fans in the United Arab Emirates and around the world, but I hope to play and win in Abu Dhabi again next year.

Sad indeed!!!!!

Crazy how he's going to win AO without any preparation at all.

I have a feeling that he might pull out of AO too citing lack of match play as a reason...

Either that or he'll play Kooyong (the Kooyong organizers said Nadal was their top priority).

For sure, no way he is playing the AO now. Perhaps he never was to begin with.

Nadal already said "My rehab has gone well, my knee feels good and I was looking forward to competing", so the virus is the only issue. You were wrong.

I have not believed one word from the Nadal camp since this whole thing started at Wimbledon. I don't believe any of it. If you do, good for you.

Is that a good reason to pull out? Match play?

Nadal already said he's aiming to be in form by the clay season (or I think he mentioned Indian Wells). So he isn't thinking about winning the AO. In 2012 before the AO he also said he wasn't thinking about winning the AO, because he had just begun playing with a heavier racquet and he said he'd need all of February to train with it before ready.

I have a bad feeling he is going to withdraw a few days before the tournaments just like he is doing now.

He said this week he doesn't expect his knee to be 100% until March........so expect lots last min pullouts and maybe some surprising losses for the 1st QTR of the year from him until clay.

He should dump the whole early hardcourt season anyway and save the knees until the soft stuff in March.

I know Rafa says he doesn't care about ranking, but perhaps he should show it by withdrawing from everything until clay starts (and just practice on clay until then, so he has SOME experience).

It's not worth playing AO and risking knee injuries again on hard courts if he has no chance of winning
