It seems that a lot of folks here think that Ralph has given up,packed up,gonna retire etc etc.
Do you think Ralph will from here onwards just play the clay-swing and maybe Wimby, rack up as many slams as possible in the clay-grass season and try to overtake Federer's slam count with this strategy? Thoughts? |

Thats a terrible strategy. I don't like it. A key element is missing. In order for this to work he'd need fill that missing key element. Nadal would need to start a clothing line. Perhaps call it something clever like "eleven" or something because that is the slam count he's at.

Stop comparing the Wussie Tennis Assocation to men's tennis.

OP: he should alter his schedule, only focusing on the majors, as he is aging, but with sensible rest, he is still talented enough to take several majors over the next five years or so.
Wussie is the guy who has a history of blubbering like a baby in front of the world when he loses matches. Last edited by THUNDERVOLLEY : 12-30-2012 at 10:44 AM. |

So instead of showing his emotion, it's better off being manly by threaten someone's life by shoving the tennis ball down his throat?

If you mean showing up at 9am every morning at the local Krispy Kreme, then no.

Serena is the only player, man or women, so supremely talented that she can do that and still dominate and win big anytime she wants. Federer, Navratilova, Graf, Sampras would never get away with it, as even as talented as they are they dont have the same superhuman talent Serena possesses. Seles in her 2nd career attempted the same lax diet and lifestyle as Serena, and found herself a second rate player incapable of even contending for slams ever again. Serena really has it all, she can have it all, the glamor, the various careers outside tennis, eat and train as she wants, and still win so much many are now calling her the female tennis GOAT. All others would want what she has, but there is only one Serena.

lol, what a load of bull ........ Serena only gets/got away with it because of the pathetic state of the WTA field ...... nothing to do with her being supposedly more talented than fed/sampras/graf/navratilova ...

Your comment is bull, Serena is thirty one years old yet she is head and shoulders above the rest of the WTA Tour. Serena's results prove she's the best. Serena is better than Graf and Navratilova both say Serena is an incredible champion. In Graf and Navatilova's eras they hardly had any competiton. Serena has beaten three different generations in her amazing tennis career. Serena is still the benchmark for greatness she had an 8-0 record against Sharapova and Azarenka the so called number 2 and number 1 female tennis players in the world.

I remember when Nadal hit the ball to Serena during the 'Hit for Haiti' fun exho 2 years ago prior to the AO. Serena literally was shocked and said "OMG....so much spin!!!!!" as she struggled to return Nadal's massive topspin forehand.

Serena is one of the greatest ever of all time, and if we used ability alone as the yardstick for greatness, perhaps the greatest.
But it is not her talent and ability alone that allows her to have such a schedule. It is the relative weakness of the field around her that allows her to do this. And it isn't just Serena - look at Clijsters and Henin, elite players at the time of retirement who came back after extended absences to win majors and make finals. On the men's side, this just isn't feasible.

For the atp to be this fortunate, Nadal would retired after 2008, Nole getting injured and required surgery, and Murray retire to have a family. Ferrer, Davy , Del Potro are like the Wozniacki/Jankovic/Safina who would reach #1 plus end the year #1, given that is if Fed play less tennis like Serena.

Comparing Serena on the WTA to Nadal on the ATP is like comparing apples to oranges...They just ain't the same.
