Default Andy Murray OBE

Murray is among those honoured in the New Years Honours. Knighthoods for Wiggins and Ainslie.

Wiggins getting knighted is a bit of a joke.

He deserved more than an OBE, in my opinion.

Surely he's achieved just as much (if not more) than Jessica Ennis, and they gave her a CBE.

100% Agree.

He should've been awarded a "Sir", so that he will behave more like a Sir on a tennis court.

Imagine if he wins the Calendar Year Grand Slam in 2013 and the WTF, along with this? Most decorated tennis player ever

Murray needs this Wimbledon for a knighthood.

Good lad, Muzza. An OBE's a great and appropriate recognition of a fantastic year; the mass knighting that occurs after sporting triumph always makes me a bit queasy.

Well done to Murray.

On another note, I don't think any sportsperson should be knighted or made a Dame until their career is over. Having active sportspeople being 'Sir Bradley Wiggins' etc. is ridiculous IMHO.

This is well deserved. I just have a sadistic desire to see Scotland declare independence right before Murray wins Wimbledon.

It might have been a knighthood had he actually won that match himself. I heard they were pondering on whether to knight the easterly New York breeze. I can't help but imagine the vote to give Murray an OBE over the wind knighthood wasn't unanimous.

Andrew Murray is so important that the latest Bond movie ended up in Scotland as a tribute to him.

My thoughts exactly.

I also share the opinion that these sportspeople shouldn't receive any form of honours until they retire.

Until Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs are knighted I call this whole procedure a farce!
