Default SAP Open 2013

No thread for this yet or did I miss it? Looks like Hewitt is about to start against Kavcic. It would be nice to see Hewitt have at least one really good tournament this year. This seems like one where he's got a decent shot.

Sad this is the last year. I was going to go Wednesday night to watch Dolgopolov and then he withdrew! Selling my tickets now, haha. Isner and Haas is not worth $50 to me!

Cool

The two giant servers at opposite ends of the draw...if form holds true they better issue catcher masks to everybody sitting down close behind the baselines for that final!

Darn it was one of my favourite 250’s of 2011. Milos’ first title, Verdasco’s 12yo boy comment, great quality Veetle (?) stream with Ken Thomas commentary. Now ending, too bad.

Very surprised to see that Live tennis.tv doesn't have coverage for this. and the tournament site doesn't have LIve Cam coverage either. They did in the years past. Not sure what happened ?

'Sharks Sports & Entertainment also own a 500-level tournament in Memphis that also has a women’s event with it. When a group from Brazil made a lucrative offer to buy that tournament, the Sharks decided to move the San Jose event to Memphis because of better logistics.'

Yeah, as Moose Malloy mentioned in his post. Essentially, San Jose 250 moves to Memphis as a 250. The current combined men's/women's Memphis tourney moves to Rio where it will be a 500 tourney for the men. That's the info I got from articles I read a few months back.

ok, thx guys for the info.

will be interesting to see how they schedule all this: if they don't change anything there could be 2 straight tournaments played in brazil...

and what about the surface ? sao paulo is an indoor clay event... what would be rio played on ?
(anything to do with olympic facilities, by the way ?)

No idea for these questions. I'll be checking the schedule in 2014 to find out myself.

Rooting for Milos and the Bryan brothers to win the final SAP Open! (The Bryan brothers played college tennis at nearby Stanford and they have never won the SAP Open, hope they do it this year!)

Rio will be clay and Acapulco will change to hard court to preserve the surfaces. Delray and Memphis will both be moved a week back to allow Acapulco to be become the finale of this pre-IW/Miami NA hardcourt swing. Rio takes Acapulco's place as the 500 event of the Golden Swing.

So essentially, San Jose becomes Memphis, Memphis becomes Acapulco, and Acapulco becomes Rio.

This is why they're moving, you can hear crickets in there.

https://twitter.com/SAPOpenTennis/st...191232/photo/1

Granted, that was the final round of qualifying at 9:30am on a Monday. Last year was the first year that qualifying was scheduled during the week but I think they also reduced the draw from 32 to 28 but still. No one wants to pay to see qualifying matches.

I mean in terms of how interested I am in seeing them, not in terms of current level...I should've been clearer

i think tournaments like these should stream online on their main site. the more people tune in, talk about the tournament, remember the odd trick shot or upset the more likely it is for people to actually want to see it live.
it will also help give the sponsors more bang for their buck.

OR... change the surface to grass so it isn't just another, also ran, 250 event!

SAP open did stream it live on their site last year or the year before, it was high quality too. Too bad they canned the stream.

What up with the young americans going down in droves, Harrison, Sock and Sweeting out early. At least Smyzeck moves through. Now its up to him, Isner, Sam Q, Young/Russel, Johnson to represent!
