Have you guys seen this? Apparently there's a movie coming out in September called Wimbledon.
Synopsis: A British tennis player (Paul Bettany), once top-ranked, has fallen to 157th in the world. Generally considered to be on his last legs as a professional player, he gets one last chance over the course of two short weeks to win both the All-England Lawn Tennis Championships on the grassy courts of Wimbledon... and the heart of the rising star "bad girl of tennis" (Kirsten Dunst). Yikes... anyone gonna go catch this? On one side, at least they're actually doing a movie that involves tennis... but I dunno, could be pretty cheesy. |

Yes, I saw some of these movies before. One of the best won the Academy Award and was based on the story of 2 men: a club fighter who went the distance against Ali and a man who had over 30 movie screenplays rejected before his first one bowled over Hollywood. Another fave of mine is "Hoosiers." If the movie you are talking about is anything like these, I'll love it. Some of these movies can be cheesy and excellent at the same time. I hope they change the title to "Wimby."

Sorry to burst any bubbles out there but you can watch the trailer on http://movies.yahoo.com/movies/feature/wimbledon.html.
It's apparent that Wimby serves as the pretext and backdrop of a love story but who knows? Some would argue that Rockywas a love story too... If it's any hint, this movie is brought you by the same folks who were involved in Bridget Jones' Diary... |

It'll be interesting to see the action sequences for obvious reasons.

Well I wish to inform you that I have been approached by the director of the film and he has asked me to be the stunt double for Paul Bettany.
He said he wanted me for my "all round world class tennis game". And Kirsten Dunst wanted me as her partner for all the "difficult" scenes. I will let you know how I get on with the film, apparently my character beats Roddick, Henman, and Federer in the quarters, semis and final respectively. Tough job, but hey, someone has to do it! -Liam |

Anyone remember the tennis movie that I think starred Vince Van Patten? I recall he plays in a major final--maybe Wimbledon. I did a search on google, but couldn't find a reference. I'm not thinking of the movie Van Patten wrote in 1995. This is older than that and he was the star, not the playwright or director.

I guess I must be thinking of the Break, but I thought I saw it in the 80s.
I remember that it really sucked, but I still watched it.

Didn't Vince Van Patten submit some movie script where some actor/tennis player beats John McEnroe at the Japan Open...2 years in a row? What a farce! Oh...yeah, now I remember.

Ah yeah, Dean-Paul Martin. Hey, don't forget he was also part of the 60s band Dino Desi & Billy. Or maybe you would like to forget that. Died in a tragic aviation accident in 1987.
Here's a pic from Players. You can buy the photo or the movie, if you're so inclined, on ****. Amazing what you can find on ****.

This is great for the sport. Tennis never touches mainstream culture like other sports do. I don't know when this will come out but hopefully it will happen close to when the US Open starts so it has the chance to get more people interested in tennis and draw them into watching the US Open.

Morpheus - I thought you were thinking about the time an actor really did beat John McEnroe in the same tournament 2 years in a row. Beats fiction, imo!
