Well, yes. He already won the tour last year, in a final over Courier if memory serves well.

He reached a career high 18 in singles & beat Becker & McEnroe at the US Open. His doubles overshadowed his singles, but he was pretty solid in singles unlike the doubles specialists of today.

Did he play for FSU before turning pro?
Maybe he and McEnroe can pair up and play ATP doubles next year.

That's a great idea. Bjorkman is tough to get since he plays with Mirnyi full-time. Haarhuis is still in pro level shape, can still hit a big ball, & (presumably) has lots of free time on his hands.
We could see how good Mac really is, if he can play 10 doubles events or so.

Whilst at the same time promoting doubles which the ATP are trying so hard to do. They are trying all kinds of things to get people interested and whilst they might be having some sucess, having John McEnroe playing 10 or so doubles events a year would attract an awful lot more intrest.

If he doesn't do so good in them, at least he can say he was doing it for the good of doubles! It's a win win situation.

Yeah, but he's a total ringer for the Champions' Tour.

He doesn't play enough events to qualify for the year end championships, but because he's a promoter for the event, he wild-cards himself in. Then proceeds to kick everyone's butt.

Haarhuis wasn't supposed to play at the Masters this year. It was only because of Krajicek pulling out that he got a wild card.

I think they tend to go to British players or really well known players who didn't qualify. How many people realistically would go and watch to see Haarhuis win? They would much prefer a Courier, Ivanisevic, McEnroe were to win it.

I'll never forget the epic Haarhuis/ Connors match at the US Open when Connors made his run at to the semis at 39.

Ohhhh yeah.....remember Haarhuis had 4 overheads in a row trying to end a point? Connors dug each and every one of them out and wound up winning the point on the down the line backhand pass? Harrhuis GOAT? I think not.
