Default Energy Drink for 2 hrs.

I play indoor league every Monday @9pm. Since around 9pm, I get really tired and sleepy. I drank some tea 1/2 hr before the match so it would pep me up and make me more alert. Well, during the match I was so gittery and nervous that I could not focus. In addtion, I ended up staying awake till 3am bc of the caffiene. Is there something that I can take that will really boost my energy level for a short period of time, while help me to focus and not keep me up all night?

try a mixture of jagrmeister and red bull (actually i think that is a drink) ..but seriously, you may be more amped up from the match than from the cafeine and maybe that is why you cant sleep..you must be very caffeine intolerant because there isnt that much caffeine in a cup of tea. try taking a cold shower just before you play and a hot one after. maybe skip rope for a few minutes just before you play.

Yup, jagr-bomb. Not advised to take before or on the court.

Than, the cereal. Energy boost in a box. Checkout high and low-glycemic foods in Google. Energy without caffeine or stimulants. Even slow-cooked oatmeal may do. Far cheaper than energy bars

What the hell guys?

One cup of tea has such an insignificant amount of caffeine, it's less than half a cup of coffee which is still low relatively.

One cup of tea cannot keep you up for 6 hours, unless you have a serious intolerance of any stimulants period. I think the fact you were up till 3 was more of a mental affect or maybe something you ate, but a cup of tea certainly doesn't keep you up till 3 am AFTER a workout.

One thing I learned is not to exercise too late at night. It can take a few hours for your body to wind down and get tired to be able to sleep. I eat a lot of pasta, sometimes a day or two before a match so I have energy when I need it. You could take a quick 20 minute nap before you head out and play. That has given me energy when I needed it. HTH.

Exercising late at nigth keeps you indeed awake.

I'd suggest (based on exercise books) pasta 3-4 hrs before too. Bananas and apples in the last 3hrs and during the game. Don't eat too close to the game or that'll definitely make you slower and sleepy :)

Pasta has carbs. Carbs are good despite all these lame diet ads out there today. When I was in high school I used to eat pasta a day or two before a cross country match. When race time came I was ready. I had all that extra energy from that pasta to keep me going. Same thing holds true today. I eat a ton of pasta and when I play I can go on for hours at a time before I want to stop. The other day I played a best of 5 and right after I did a best of 3. I did all of this in about 4 hours time. I still had energy after the best of 3 to go another best of 3 or 5 if I had an opponent. Hope this answers your question.
