John still has the game, but not the speed. His game was based on his speed....the guy was fast. His game was never about power, that's why he is still looking good after all these years. Would he make the 3rd round of a major? US Open maybe...French NO....Aus Open.....probably not and Wimby is different since he last played singles. The court is not as fast as it used to be. On a good week he could maybe even make the 4th round, but depends on the draw. Does he face a strong counter-puncher with a big serve ar forehand? He would probably lose. Guys are just so fast and strong today. Mac is a finesse guy. To me Tennis can be very boring to watch these days. I long the days of Becker, Edberg, Lendl, Mac, Connors, Agassi and Pete. Today's players are a bit boring (in their game). Everyone I(besides Fed) looks the same. Maybe that's why he dominates.

McEnroe is very entertaining to watch. I would really like to see him play against the top womens player in the world. This would bring new people to tennis without a doubt. McEnroe vs. (Serena, Sharapova, or Henin). McEnroe must give handicap like he has only one ball to serve in each side.

I hate to pull this off-topic, but I loved those two SuperSet tennis events. I wish that would have caught on. Since the matches were only one set long the retired guys were still able to compete with the younger current tour players without endurance becoming an issue. Had this caught on, I think the younger fans would have more respect for the older guys.
The last SuperSet event happened in London and was shown on The Tennis Channel and was won by Ancic. The first one happened in America and was won by Ginepri. I remember that one being televised here the US, but I don't remember what network carried it. It wasn't The Tennis Channel...I think it may have been NBC. I remember it was on a Thanksgiving day. I remember in the second one, who got to choose to serve first wasn't decided by a coin toss. It was decided by who could serve closest to the T. They were given three serves with the proximity to the T being decided by a Hawk-Eye like system. I remember in the match between Rusedski and Ivanisevic the serves of Rusedski were all over the place and not all that close to the T. All three of Ivanisevic's serves were dead on. Anyway, if Mac played a 5 setter it'd take him at least a week to recover for his next match. |

Would he qualify...maybe. Conditions have to be right. 2nd round exit....again...depending on conditions. However....I don't think anyone would disagree if I made this statement:
John Mcenroe is the best 47 year old tennis player in the world! |

McEnroe is beating guys fresh off the tour dude. He would waste you and just about any college player.
This thread has successfully spelled every word wrong in its title. Congrats. |

I saw Mac play doubles matches live last year in San Jose with Bjorkman. Although Bjorkman hit harder, Mac won his serve more easily -- no one could touch it! Too much nasty lefty spin. I'd say the only way you'd get a point off him is if he made an unforced error. Otherwise, you're likely to be toast.
