Finally a women's tennismatch which showed some true tennis. Battles and strategy a la Steffi Graf vs Gabriela Sabatini, but with the power of today. Great match!!

These two girls have been playing like this against ecahother for the last 12 months at least if not longer.

Plus Amelie doesn't like Justine much - so this is a real rivalry.

This is the sort of rivalry the ATP needs. I by far...far far FAR prefer the mens side but I still can acknowledge when I see something I like from the WTA.

I second that! By far the best 2 WTA players technically and tactically. Always a joy to watch the 2 play each other and no grunts.

Wish this style of game would be the rule rather than the exception on the womans tour.

ya, brought back memories of mauresmo playing lackadaisical, and without a gameplan. you guys have to realize not everyone is born to be an allcourt player. and if say a more one dimensional sharapova is on her game, she will win against henin or amelia, because sharapova can play her game to perfection, and put her opponent on the defensive all the time.

you seem to want to discredit the connors, agassis, evert, seles, sharapovas of the world because they weren't born to be allcourt players, but rather learned to play a baseline game to perfection.

and fyi, graf and sabatini were not allcourt players.

Well it is not uncommon for many tennis fans to think players are incomplete or dare I say "inferior" for lacking the all-court game. BTW, until Sharapova actually dominates the field enough to rack up the Slams faster than one every other year, it is premature to claim she plays her game to perfection.

How do you classify Sabatini's game? If memory serves, her strategy against Graf to win the '90 USO and near win in the '91 Wimbledon final, she served and volleyed often against Graf.

i think i said when her game is on she plays it too perfection. current #1, 2 slams, a yearend, at 19, aint bad.

sabatini was a topspin baseliner, who like steffi could volley, but rarely served and volleyed. i'd hardly consider them allcourt players. they won the vast majority of there points from the baseline. sabatini did close pints at the net in her one and only uso win. but she came to net no more than clijsters, petrova, hingis, serena etc.

Wishful thinking. Not many players are as talented as these two in this regard. Even if we had many players play this style, it might not be as enjoyable to watch because they aren't as talented, it would be more like a style you force someone to play. These two play their natural style of tennis.

Point in case is Federer plays his natural style of game, while Roddick's all court effort still feels like it is forced on him.
