WHAT IS THE LAST LONGEST WINING STREAK?

It seems FEDEX is on par to match MAC 1984 run or Lendl's or a Connors. What was the last longest streak over 15 matches? I recall Hewitt running wild in 01 & 02.

Actually, there have been longer winning streaks in the recent past - we don't have to go as far back as McEnroe or Connors. Roddick had something like a 24-1 winning streak over the summer last year, including his winning US Open run. Hewitt may have had an equivalent streak in 2002, I'll have to check. Agassi had a 26-1 winning streak over the summer of 1995, until Sampras took him out in the finals of the US Open, sending AA into a tailspin.

you don't seriously think Fed will go the year with 3-4 losses(like mac in '84 & connors in '74)?
The depth of the field is so much greater now. I don't think any player has had single digit losses since lendl in the late 80s.
I'm betting that Fed will have at least 10 losses.
As far as recent win streaks, Sampras in '94 had 28 or 29, I think.
Also Muster had a big streak in '93, but they were all lower tier events.

Ok,
I forgot about Muster in '95. 35 match winning streak(all on clay) Estoril, Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Rome,Roland Garros, St. Polten until he lost to Corretja in Gstaad. Guy was an animal.
Andre's tops was 26 in '95(great year for win streaks, huh?)
Pete's was 29 in '94, though his loss in match #30 to Stich at the World Team Cup was kinda cheesy. I don't know why the ATP counts that as a tour event.
Fed is at 11 right now, he was at 16 before Henman beat him in Rotterdam.

No I don't think FEDEX can continue with this pace, he is looking remarkable. The problem is that SAFIN is such a low or non-seed that the early rds produce final match-ups with one exiting early - again the draw in Miami is a joke - look at Safin's 2nd rd opponent!! I was just wondering about streaks- I still find it baffelling when reading Bud Collins encyclopedia and seeing these yr end winning %. Lendle-Mac-Connors etc = dominating - I rather have the parity of todays game then 4 great players and then abyss.

Roddick won 19 in a row last year, finally losing in Davis Cup. Courier won like 22 straight in 1992 or something as well. Muster's 35 has got to be practically the most ever.

Grim, that summer of 77 with those Monday finals on Har-tru on PBS culminating with winning the US Open final set 6-0 over Connors and Connors departing in a helicopter was just too sweet. Vilas was incredible and those backhands...........what a rush.

I never saw Vilas play either, but I've heard Rios is some kind of a throwback to Vilas, so something tells me I'd enjoy his game.

As for the best summer records (post 1990):

Agassi (1995) 26-1 (lost in USO final)
Rafter (199

25-2 (includes USO win)
Roddick (2003) 27-1 (includes USO win)...including a 37-2 record if you include the grass season

^All 4 titles each. And all have the two summer hardcourt masters.

So it's safe to say, that at least from 1990 til now...Roddick has had the best summer in 2003..followed closely by Agassi in 1995...and then probably Rafter in 1998.

As for pure matching winning streaks of all time

Vilas - 50
Borg - 49

Funny thing it was Vilas that snapped Borg's winning streak in the year Borg had it going.

Awright,
I don't think you'd be a fan of Vilas' game. Outside of being leftys & from South America, Rios & him have nothing in common. Vilas was a typical baseliner with heavy topspin. Borg was better in every way & took the ball earlier. The win streak of '77 was impressive but until the open, he never played any of the top guys(& all those wins were on clay) Plus Borg skipped the French that year.
After Vilas beat Connors in '77, fans stormed the court & put him on their shoulders before they even got to shake hands. Connors stormed off the court(not before being restrained from going after a fan). Vilas said last year at the open, "I'm still waiting to shake Jimmy's hand."
