Default E-mail links removed?

I was going to send another board member an e-mail and when I clicked on their user ID, their e-mail link was not activated. I know they had their e-mail avaialble before. I checked the profile of a couple of other members who I have had frequent contacts with in the past, and theirs were no longer available either.

I just looked at my profile, I have the box to allow others to send me e-mail checked yet that option does not appear when I click on my user ID. Did I miss something? Were these all disabled by TW or is something gunked up in the system?

The e-mail through profile should be enabled again. Keep in mind that members themselves have to have this enabled on their own side as well. Some do, a lot do not.

SFrazeur,

Yes, I realize the users must enable the option themselves and many chose not to.

What puzzles me is that I have that option enabled, yet if you click on my ID the "Send e-mail to steveq81" link does not appear. I have always had this link open, and I have never de-activated it myself.

Also, when I checked several other members that I know always this option activated in the past it now was gone on every single one of them. That's what caused me to wonder if something was up.

I can see the link and follow it after I click on your user name. I do not have special access in this circumstance. What is with their accounts I do not know.

It's TT's (NOT TW's) fault. They messed up after the last upgrade. I asked at that time but got zero reply. I created a new username and that allows me to send email, provided the other guy allows it.

FYI,

I sent an e-mail to the TW admin about this last week, and got a reply from Spencer.

"... if you are below 50 posts you cannot email other users. This drastically cuts down on spam. Also, once the 50 posts limitations are met, you may not be able to email other users if they have chosen not to receive them via their user control panel."

Bottom line is that if you have 50+ posts, you can view others' e-mail links if they choose to allow this option and have others e-mail you if you choose that option. If you are under 50, the links are dead even if you or the person you want to contact have them activated.

At that time, I was below 50 posts -- like to read a lot, but don't jump in all that often. Now that I have 50, it seems to be working like it did in the past.
