I hope so. Nothing against Nadal who needs to be commended on his terrific run, but I think if Federer can win this final, there will be more drama and anticipation in the French. What's one clay title less to Rafa?

On the other hand, Federer will get a big boost in confidence and hopefully the FO final will be the real deal....thrilla in manilla so to speak...

Or is it Rendezvous in Paris

What would be funny though, regardless of who wins tomorrow, is that both Rafa and Fed are so tired from all these tournaments, they go on to the FO and both loose before the final... hehe And someone like Joker, Davy, Hewitt, or even Gonzo ends up winning the FO. Now that would be interesting...

If Federer is going to break the streak this is the time. He's played FAR less matches because he's been losing so much so he should have far more energy. Nadal has been playing non stop and just had a tough three set match where people remarked he looked tired. As a result if Federer wins I think it means little, but I know there would be an uproar from Federer fans.

Well, Monte-Carlo was a wash out. Rafa in straight sets. Sow why not again?? But the obvious winner is Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay. It will not be Roger Federer who wins Hamburg TMS, it will not be Roger Federer who will snap Rafa's clay streak.
Somehow, Rafa will always come in the way of Roger winning on clay, and steal victory from him.

That would be stupid. Not the least bit interesting. They would have only won because R and R wouldnt have been playing. They wouldnt stand a chnace otherwise. :P

I agree. Nadal has nothing to prove on clay. The pressure is on Federer, he needs to beat him on clay like Nadal beat him on hardcourts twice.
If Nadal loses he knows he can beat Fed. If Fed loses again on clay his record would be 0-6 and his mental block would be even bigger.

It's tough for anyone to rip winners on this slow court -- we've seen a lot of long rallies this week.

I think Rafa will win, but this is a golden opp for Roger, as Rafa is looking a bit tired and he certainly didn't play his best today. If he doesn't play his best and Federer ups his level of play, Fed could win it. I think a lot of it has to do with how Rafa plays tomorrow. If he plays his best, it's going to be tough for Roger.

Good one! Winners-Shanks ratio will be key.

How is thart hardcore fight going to make him LOSE his confidence?? If anything, it's a confidence BOOST!

Nadal in straights.

What I meant to say is that Nadal is used to win rather easilly on clay, and rarely has to fight so much for it-and today he was close to a random 3rd set tiebreak with Hewitt, who by definition is not a decent clay opponent(thats just the the stereotype) and it should be an easy win for him. Despite it being a great win for Nadal, he could lose some confidence because of thinking" I the rather weak clay-courter Hewitt could come so close, what can others do". On the other hand, Andres, Your way of thinking also makes sense-I guess we will see tomorrow

I like Fed as much as anybody, but if he wins tomorrow, it doesn't mean ####. Ditto if he loses. There's one important clay match per year, and it isn't till next month.

You're mostly right on this one, it doesn't add to the slam count but it certainly works on the psyche doesn't it? If Fed wins this match he'll boost his low confidence vs Nadal on clay. He'll know that it's possible to beat him on clay, which is something that deep down in his heart of hearts he doesn't believe, yet.

Federer in 2. I see I'm in the minority, which is not suprising, as there is no way in hell that Federer is going to win in two. But I'm a rebel what can I say.

What channel will it be televised live on? TVU player doesn't seem to have Tennis Channel anymore, so I might be stuck with watching a replay on TSN

I'm tempted to just watch the replay later in the day, because the final will be televised live at 5 AM here in California.
