I call upon the expertise of the http-knowledgable.
How does one post a pic in a classified ad? I know there is a http command for this, but have no idea what it is. Please reply assuming that those who consult your answer are http-clueless. I would be pulling a photo off my computer (ie., my documents/my pictures rather than off the web.) How does one insert a pic into an ad? Is there a way to do this without linking to a pic via a hosting service? Thanks in advance. Also, can TW post a sticky with the "post a photo" instructions? Seems like a logical thing for classified ads. Thanks again to TW for providing the tennis-addicted with this forum. |

Sean:
The first thing you need to do is somehow getting the picture in your computer to a webserver. Since you have Internet service, your ISP might have given you a web space so you can upload images or whatever. Once it is on a webserver, you need to know the picture URL. Let me give you an example. I have charter.net service so charter gave me a space with an URL of http://webpages.charter.net/bolou Then I can upload a picture (filename Tour95.jpg) into my space so people can see the picture with an URL of http://webpages.charter.net/bolou/Tour95.jpg |

You can't. You have to host your image somewhere on the web (there are free services out there) then link to it with the [img] tag.
1. do a search on google for free images hosting 2. upload your image there and note the URL that you will link to 3. post your ad using [img]link to your image[/img] to embed your picture Quote:

Hi Sean. First you have to find a place to upload your picture to the web. You can't post it directly from your hard drive. There are many free image hosting websites (google is your friend, as they say). You start an account there and upload your picture. Your picture then gets what they call a "URL." This is its address on the web. In your post you click the picture button (it looks like a litte mountain with a sun) and then paste your URL in there. That should do it.
PS. You usually have to shrink the size of your image using jpg format. You can do this with Paint, for example. Hope that helps. |

I don't know a lot about this either except that I read somewhere that it is best to put your images on an image hosting server and then post the link using an "[IMG]" tag.

For starters, HTML is turned off on TW's boards. It says down there, "HTML code is Off." So, you must use the [IMG] tag instead; to learn about it, click on "vB code" or "[IMG]" down there.
It looks like you can post pictures from a URL only. There's many free picture hosting sites; www.photobucket.com is one. |

Thanks Everyone for your help. It is actually fairly simple. I believed, incorrectly, that I could pull a file off my hard drive and insert it into the body of an ad. After being told several times that this isn't achievable, I ended up going to photobucket and storing some photos there.
So, thanks again for the help. That is the nice thing about this board. A lot of very helpful, good people. We just need to learn to stay off of certain divisive subjects ;o) |
